LEGO Donations spread joy! Donate used LEGOs today

Donation of Lego bricks to BrickReycler.com passes the joy to new children

In April, 2024 the LEGO Group passed the monumental “1 Trillion Pieces” production mark. This is a large jump from the 600 billion pieces in existence in 2015. With over 60 billion new Lego pieces produced each year it’s critical to find “homes” for these pieces so they don’t all end up in landfills.  Unfortunately billions of them are still sitting in closets and basements worldwide, not being used.

BrickRecycler.com is an environmental organization that was formed to help solve that problem. Lego: bricks, mini figures, tires, robotics, etc. can’t be recycled in the traditional sense, since no curbside recycling program in the US can process them. This is because the small pieces of ABS plastic are extremely difficult to process, and Lego sets also contain a wide variety of materials including metal, magnets, small batteries, etc.

This means, unless these precious toys are passed on to future generations, billions of pieces will end up in landfills. That is so painful to imagine, not just because they never biodegrade, but because instead they could instead bring joy to so many. The smiles and laugher of kids playing with Legos is so heartwarming. The good news about the amazing durability and quality of these pieces is that they can be reused for many, many generations.

We accept donations from all over the US, from California to New York, from Oregon to Florida. In fact we’ve received donations from all 50 states and from several other countries.  We love to match up donations with countless needs all over the US, and some internationally as well.  As a result thousands of kids are able to enjoy these great toys, and have countless hours of play. There are limitless DYI, science, architecture, and art projects that can be created using pounds of mixed pieces.

So many kids are being blessed, thanks to donors. Our first international shipment we sent was to Haiti. Since then we have shipped hundreds of pounds to other countries where Legos are very scarce, like Honduras, Zimbabwe, Mexico, and more.

Brick Recycler has given millions of pieces new homes since they started in 2011. Donated pieces end up in hands of low income schools, Lego clubs, libraries, orphanages, enthusiasts, and countless other hands that would love to have creative play using these great toys.  Through the help of countless donors, tens of thousands of smiles have been created, and millions of pieces have been saved from landfills.

There are far more requests than donations received, so a lot of work still needs to be done to spread the word. We are thankful for those who post about our mission and let them know about our website. Most people don’t know even know what to do with Legos, and so many thrifts just dump them if they aren’t complete sealed sets because they are hard for them to sell.

Reduce, Reuse, Recycle – You can make a difference, and create happiness in the process. Brick Recycler is unique since we accept: any LEGO toys (bricks, random pieces, figures, keychains, instruction manuals, LEGO robotic and electrical parts, etc.) Not need to disassemble or wash ahead of time. We can’t use LEGO compatible pieces or pieces that are very damaged so it helps if those are sorted out before donating.
